IsoEngine update 31/01/2020

Updated: Mar 4, 2020

Content schedule.

This week is just going to be a quick one. We've been spending a lot of time implementing and getting used to our new content release schedule, so other work has taken a bit of a backseat while we get going. On top of that, I think this is the first time this has actually been consistent and on time, so the period of time for us is a bit shorter than normal. That doesn't mean we haven't been doing anything though! I think for future updates this will give us a bit of room to talk about other things besides just quick work summaries, which will be nice for us.

Matthews has been wrapping up the rest of the content, such as thumbnails, for the backlog of content that we've been re-working, and now it's all at a stage where I've been able to start scheduling everything for upload, which is great! We're also in a solid place for future content releases and getting into the flow of things, which is really nice, and fills me with hope for the second half of the business year.

Kickstarter.

So last week I spoke about this a bit more, but to summarize, Matthews has been continuing his research and developments with Kickstarter campaigns and has started work on some of the written components of our page. We realized on the podcast of all places that we have a few events coming up, which nicely cross over with the types of work we need to do for the Kickstarter campaign itself, such as quick video pieces and infographics. As these are timed events they will really help us push to get them finished, and coming out of the other side we will be ready to push to you guys shortly after.

In game props.

Kickstarter is also great motivation for me to get the prop feature set that is currently in the works finished, so I'll be pushing really hard over the next month to get this done. Props will essentially lay the groundwork for any non-voxel in-game item, and will be essential for future AI work. We have a presentation to give internally in our office on the 28th of February, so that has been my personal deadline, although of course if I could get this done sooner that would be great. Depending on what we decide to do for this presentation we may go into a bit more detail closer to the time, and hopefully I can share a short video demo with you guys!

Matthews' work in this regard has also begun as he becomes more familiar with the low-poly content pipeline within the 3D modelling software Blender. So far he has been working on a more manual work-flow, which involves a lot of hand positioned vertices. This is an alternative to making high quality assets and deliberately lowering the quality and resolution. He has settled for this, as for him, it has resulted in a nicer end result, of which he has more artistic freedom. He will be using the technique and tools that he's learning now to make me some base assets for the prop system, and we'll use them in our demo in a few weeks time.

The end!

So that's it for this week. Short and sweet as it should be! As I've said a number of times, consistency for us is our main focus now, especially now that I am not in other work. Blog posts will go up on time, and at some point I will visualize or write out our content release schedule for you guys to look at and keep up with. I've just been testing out our current one, and all being well, we'll stick with it, and at worst will only have to make small changes. Livestreams are something that I am going to be getting back into very very soon, and so you should see more of me personally shortly.

As always everyone, thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great week! See ya'll.
